Notes:
Lawrence Hill is the author of seven acclaimed
books. Much of his writing touches on issues of
identity and belonging. His sixth work, the novel
The Book of Negroes, became a national
bestseller in Canada shortly after it was published
in 2007 by HarperCollins. His seventh book, the
non-fiction work The Deserter's Tale: the Story
of an Ordinary Soldier Who Walked Away from the War
in Iraq (written with Joshua Key) also
appeared in 2007 in Canada, the USA and Australia
and is being translated and published in eight
other countries.
"The Book of Negroes is a masterpiece,
daring and impressive in its geographic, historical
and human reach, convincing in its narrative art
and detail, necessary for imagining the real beyond
the traces left by history."
