Merilyn Simonds is the author of twelve books, including The Convict Lover, which was a finalist for the Governor General's award and was named one of the top ten books of 1996 by Maclean's, The Globe & Mail, and Elm Street Magazine. An ongoing bestseller, it has become a classic in Canadian creative nonfiction and has been optioned for both stage and screen. Her collection of stories, The Lion in the Room Next Door, was widely acclaimed in Canada, the United States, Germany, and Britain, and her debut novel, The Holding, was recently selected as an Editors' Choice by the New York Times. Her short story, "Miss You Already," published in The Walrus, was a 2006 finalist for the National Magazine awards and has been translated into Dutch and into German for an anthology of international women's fiction titled Seventeen Women Undress a Man.
